Rebekah Wall here! I am brilliantly excited to be part of this fantabulous musical! Yes, that is not a word, but all words originate from somewhere, do they not? I am a home schooled seventeen-year-old and a rising senior, which is quite scary but exciting! I come from a very musical family, in which I am the fourth of five kids. Growing up I remember the Wall Family being referred to as The Von Trapps! My dad, the best pianist I know, and my mom, the most excellent of voice teachers, were so musical that my siblings and I were all born singing and playing the piano. Through all these musical experiences given to us by our parents, we have all gone on to learn other instruments of our choice. I have thoroughly enjoyed participating in my mother's home school choir and Alabama All-State Choir events. Above all I love basking in the theatrical passion that the Lord has given me, and sharing the stage with my loving and supportive family.
Of course I am no stranger to the stage nor to the CharACTers' stage. I have been in the CharACTers' family for 1 1/2 years, playing in Hairspray, Ragtime, Beauty and the Beast, and Legally Blonde. I am tickled pink to return to Music Man playing, for the second time, the role of Zaneeta Shinn, who is simply described as "pink and sixteen." I played Zaneeta back in 2010 with a group in Anniston called C.A.S.T. "Wouldn't playing the same role in the same show be boring?" one might ask. The answer is absolutely NOT! This kind of opportunity is actually quite rare. Getting reacquainted with Zaneeta Shinn, who has Rebekah Wall written all over her, has been thrilling! Zaneeta is the ditsy, silly, and dramatic teenage girl who belongs to Mayor and Mrs. Shinn. She is head-over-heals in love with the town "bad boy," Tommy Djilas, and despite her father's disapproval, they go steady behind his back! Ha! This character is a hoot, and I am so enjoying the process of bringing her to life once again.
This process is exhausting in the most fabulous of ways! It's a journey and exactly what theatre is all about. It's like traveling to new places, and I love traveling into the world of a new character...who they are and what makes them laugh, cry, scared, emotional etc. Even the smallest of characters deserve deep consideration and the analysis of every line and the motivation for every move. I love making a small character big and all the audience wants to watch. The hardest part is giving 200% in a rehearsal where there are no costumes and no set pieces to spark your creativity and imagination. Creating that world for your character out of nothing is so challenging, but I adore it! When it comes down to it, the curtain rises and I once again lose myself in the world of the character I have become. I leave all I know back stage and become that someone else. That's exactly what I owe to the audience, and to see that somehow the Lord has used me to touch the lives of those who watch makes it all worth it. Every drop of blood, sweat, and tears. It's a joy indescribable, and that is exactly what you will find with CharACTers; an indescribable experience that is home to an actress/actor. I have been so loved and taken care of in this family of CharACTers, and I love them all for the opportunities I have been given. Thank you Cody Carlton for an environment that welcomes "failer." By this I mean, thank you for leaving me challenged after every rehearsal accomplished. It's a scary thing, but as long as I am not failing I am not trying enough challenging things. I am excited to share this passion and see where the Lord takes me! Have an EXHILARATING time at The Music Man, Everyone!
